Overuse syndromes of the foot during running

Injuries of the foot and ankle during running occur in 30 to 50% of cases [7, 19, 22]. A single incident is rarely the cause; in the great majority of cases repeated micro-traumatisms during athletic activity must be incriminated, usually in an endurance sport activity. The concentration of stresses in some areas produces lesions which finally create an overuse pathology [15]. The following text is restricted to a discussion of some general notions about the factors which provoke this pathology.
