A Rubric to Measure Nurse-to-Physician Communication: A Pilot Study

2021
Abstract Background Improving communication between health care providers remains a national and global priority. Method This study involved instrument validation followed by pilot testing of the rubric with nursing students in a simulated hospital setting. Ten nurses and physicians determined validity. Fifty baccalaureate-level third-year nursing students participated in simulations and were evaluated with the rubric. Results Face validity and content validity were determined by all nurses and physicians who reviewed the rubric. When examining the reliability of all variables within the rubric, Cronbach's alpha was determined to be 0.931. Conclusion(s) This pilot study suggested the rubric was valid and reliable.
