The incidence of trypanosomiasis in the cattle population situated along the peripheries of the Kainji National Park in Nigeria.

ummary The incidence of trypanosomiasis among the sedentary cattle owned by settled Fulanis which graze inside and along the peripheries of the Kainji National Park was investigated. The blood of all of 100 haed of cattle was positive for the brucei group of trypanosomes. There was massive infestation of the cattle with insects, especially Glossina morsitans submorsitans and Stomoxys calcitrans. The average packed cell volume (PCV) of the animals was low but, in spite of this, the animals looked active, and showed no sign of loss of appetite. Zusammenfassung Die Verbreitung der Trypanosomiasis in der Rinderpopulation im Umkreis des Kainji Nationalparks in Nigeria Die Verbreitung der Trypanosomiasis unter den Rinderherden, die den seshaften Fulanis gehoren und innerhalb und entlang der Peripherie des Kainji Nationalparkes weiden, wurde untersucht. El volumen celular medio (MCV) de los animales era bajo, a pesar de lo cual tenian un aspecto de salud activa y no mostraban signos de que su apetito hubiera sufrido alguna alteracion.
