Charaterisation and dry sliding wear behaviour of 2.29 wt% aluminium-alloyed ductile iron

2020
Abstract This study presents the results of coefficient of friction estimated as a function of wear resistance measurement. The results of three samples of 2.29 wt% aluminium-alloyed ductile cast iron were compared to evaluate the effect of austempering treatment carried out on the samples. The results revealed that the samples austempered were found to be more resistance to wear compare to the non-austempered sample. However, the two-step austempered alloy has slightly higher coefficient of friction than the single step austempered alloy. Comparing the accuracy of the wear test; results showed, M4, A25 and B25 samples had coefficient of friction values of 0.161, 0.180 and 0.186 under pin-on-disk; and 0.200, 0.361 and 0.365 under ball-on-disk tribometer configurations respectively.
