Capturing Sharp-Tailed Grouse Hens by Using Taped Chick Distress Calls

A combination of recorded chick distress calls and mist nets was used to capture five sharp tailed grouse hens (Pedioecetes phasianellus campestris) with chicks from less than 1 day to 6 weeks of age. One hen was captured twice and another three times. CAPTURING SHARP_TAILED GROUSE * Artmunn 557 form despite considerable variation in length of season. In Illinois, Bellrose ( 1944: 356) concluded that although duck kill was not reduced in direct ratio to the length of the season, changing the length of season was one of the most expedient methods of regulating the duck kill.
