Performance Improvement Method for CTCS-3 with ATO System under Wireless Packet Delay and Loss

CTCS-3 with ATO system uses bidirectional digital communication for onboard Automatic Train Protection (ATP) and Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and wayside devices to transmit train control and status information in High-Speed Railway (HSR). However, the inevitable transmission delay and packet loss in GSM-R and GPRS wireless communications in CTCS-3 systems will cause unplanned service braking or degraded operation, which would seriously affect the operation performance. In this paper, we quantitatively analyze the impact of wireless communication packet delay and loss on the tracking time and total energy consumption of CTCS-3 with ATO system under moving block. A state space model for CTCS-3 with ATO system under wireless packet delay and loss is established, and reinforcement learning control scheme based on wireless transmissions parameter adaption is proposed to improve the train control performances. Simulation results show that the proposed method can significantly improve the punctuality and operation efficiency in CTCS-3 with ATO systems compared to existing methods.
