Antiocardiolipin antibodies inpatients withprimary immunodeficiency diseases

1988
SUMMARY Thepresence ofantibodies tocardiolipin was determined (byan ELISA)in143 patients withprimary immunodeficiency diseases. Thirty(21%)hadraised anticardiolipin antibody levels compared withonlythree in98age matched controls. Thehighest prevalence of thisautoantibody was foundintheWiskott-Aldrich syndrome. Patients withselective IgA deficiency alsoshowed a highprevalence ofthis autoantibody (32%), whilepatients withsevere defects inantibody production showed a lowprevalence or didnothavesuchautoantibodies. Thisstudy provides further evidence oftheassociation between autoimmune phenomenaand primary immunodeficiency diseases.
