NEW QUANTITATIVE ESTIMATION OF ACETAZOLAMIDE BULK SAMPLE USING HYDROTROPIC SOLUBILIZING AGENTS

2012
Mordern Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Indore. (M.P.)ABSTRACTIn the present investigation, hydrotropic solubilization technique hasbeen employed to solubilize the poorly water soluble antidiureticdrug, acetazolamide for its spectrophotometric analysis. For the samework N,N’-dimethyl urea solution (b y 7.5 M), and sodium acetatesolution (5.5 M) w ere used as hydrotropic agent. There was more than2 fold and 1.8 fold enhancement in aqueous solubility ofacetazolamide in 7.5 M N,N’-dimethyl urea solution and 5.5 Msodium acetate solution respectively; compared to the solubility indistilled water. The hydrotropic agent did not interfere in the analysis. The hydrotrop is economic and pollution free. The proposed methodis new, simple, accurate and reproducible. Statistical data proved theaccuracy, reproducibility and precision of the proposed method. Keywords: Hydrotropy, Acetazolamide, N,N’-dimethyl urea, sodiumacetate,Spectrophotometry.
