PENGGARUH TINGGI PAGAR KEDAP SERANGGA TERHADAP PENYAKIT YANG DISEBABKAN VIRUS PADA TANAMAN CABAI MERAH (Capsicum annuum L.)

2020
Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the most widely cultivated horticultural crops in Indonesia and is used regularly in food processing by the community. One of the causes of the decline of red chili production is caused by virus infection. The disease is transmitted by insect vector, namely white fly (Bemisia tabaci) and aphid (Aphis gossypii). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of differences in the height of the insect proof net bordering the red chilli plot on virus diseases brought in by insect vector. This study used an insect net boder with different heights of 1.25 meters, 1.50 meters and 1.75 meters. The parameters observed in this study were the population of white fly and aphids, disease incidence, disease intensity and the yield of chilli. Based on observations results for eight times, it was found that the height of the insect netting fence used had no significant effect on the observed parameters. The population of aphids began to appear in the first week of observation and was mostly found in the treatment with an insect net height of 1.25 meters and the least in the treatment of 1.75 meters. The population of aphids continued to increase and was mostly found in the third week of observation, then it decreased to the eighth observation with increasing age of the chili plants. The calculation of the percentage of disease intensity and incidence in the first and second treatments was started in the second week, while the third treatment was started at the third week of observation, as well as for the disease incidence calculation. The highest percentage of disease intencity and incidence occurred in the treatment with the height of the insect net fence 1.25 meters and the smallest in the treatment 1.75 meters. Then for crop yields, the most chili fruit produced was in the insect net height treatment 1.75 meters, which was 34.5 grams in the first harvest and 92.6 grams in the second harvest, while the least production occurred in the treatment of insect net height 1.50 meters, namely 0 grams at the first harvest and 20,2 grams at the second harvest. The viral diseases found in the field is curly yellow virus characterized by symptoms of a yellow leaf discoloration, thickening of the leaf bones, the leaves appear to curl and roll upwards, then further attacks cause the leaves to appear smaller and the plant appear stunted.
