Laser-Doppler Velocimetry Applied to the Impact Testing of Polymers

The use of continuous velocity measurement by laser-Doppler is discussed in the context of the transient velocity change of a falling weight impacting notched-bar Charpy specimens. Velocity-time data are used to construct force-displacement curves which define fracture mechanics parameters.
