Neuromuscular blocking activity of aminoglycoside antibiotics.

1976
Neuromuscular blockade is a recognized complication of anti -microbial therapy. There are now many experimental and clinical evidences to show that aminoglycoside antibiotics have an action at the neuromuscular junction. The aminoglycoside antibiotics are also potentially capable of interacting with curare or other muscle relaxants. The clinical significance of this interaction lies in the respiratory depression, prolonged apnoea or accidental death asso -ciated with the combination of muscle relaxants and aminoglycoside antibiotics.
