Elimination of visor defects using 7 QC tools

Abstract The aim of this project was to study the quality improvement after accomplishment of 7QC tools in a manufacturing practice of visors used in speedometer. The main motive of this project was used to detect the defects that occurred in the manufacturing procedure and analyzed using 7 QC tools. Moreover that, the new design has been planned for defect decline and improving the quality of the product in the production line. Observation throughout the production line is done. There are reasons which causes scratches in visors are continuous movement of visors in conveyor, improper storage in bin, improper holding of visor in EOL fixture and improper training to assembly operator. The data were then arranged back using Pareto Chart based on the frequency of the defects. This data were arranged from the uppermost defect to the lowly defect. The uppermost defect detected was under cook problem. Brainstorming session was completed with the workers and also with the manager to make the cause and effect diagram to details the problem. All probable causes are categories under 4 M which are Manpower, Machines, Materials, and Methods. According to the cause and effect diagram, the improvement was generated. The improvement was to fabricate visors without scratches. Introducing stopper in conveyor and also changing the storage bin is reduced the scratches in visors. All data were tabulated in form of graphs and tables. Percentage of defects reduce was also calculated.
