Motives for Finding Alternative Proofs

Four motives for seeking new proofs of previously established results have already been mentioned in Chapter 1: the desires (1) to correct errors or fill perceived gaps in earlier arguments; (2) to eliminate superfluous or controversial hypotheses; (3) to extend a theorem’s range of validity; and (4) to make proofs more perspicuous.
