Radical Hysterectomy and Pelvic Lymphadenectomy (French School)
2018
Since the beginning of the century when the first series of extended hysterectomy has been published different procedures and classifications have been proposed but none have spread worldwide. The most commonly used classification in the past decade has been the Piver-Smith classification published in 1974. For a long time it seemed adequate, however, over time with recent changes in the surgical management of cervical cancer this classification has become outdated. This is largely attributed to the development of endoscopic techniques providing a more detailed knowledge of the anatomy of the parametrium, leading to the development of a new revised classification by Querleu and Morrow in 2008.
