Survival after lung metastasis resection. Review of 17 years in our centre

2015
Introduction: Surgical resection of lung metastasis (mx) of extrapulmonary tumors offers high survival rates Objective: To analyze survival after resection of lung mx Material and Methods: Data was obtained from clinical records Describe and analyze survival at 1, 3, 5 and 10 years along 17 years Results: 118 patients with 180 lung mx resected. 56%men; mean age 62.5 years The period of time from the treatment of the primary tumor and appearance of the first mx was 40,8 months Main origins of primary tumors:colorectal 47(39,8%); renal 19(16%); skin melanoma 15(12,7%); breast 9(7,6%); soft tissue sarcoma 7(6%); otolaringology 5(4,2%); uterine sarcoma 5(4,2%) Resection of mx was performed as follows:1 in 60% of cases, 2 in 30.5% and 3 or more in 9.5% Conclusions: Surgical resection of lung mx of specific extrapulmonar origins provides high survival rates Free interval between principal tumor and first mx is in average 3 years The most frequent primary tumors were colorectal, renal and skin melanoma In general resection of renal origined mx offers the greatest survival.
