Comparison of Full Field Digital and Analog Mammograms

2003
We collected 34 pairs of digital and analog mammograms with visible lesions of 34 patients. All patients had a digital mammogram using a GE Senographe 2000D. These patients were either referred from the screening program (21) or by their GP’s (13). Only the images of the suspect breast were used. The digital images were printed on laser image film. Eight trainee screening radiologists reviewed the cases using a conventional lightbox. Their analog and digital performance was measured by ROC technique. The readers’ performance measured as an Az value reveal an equal or better performance on the digital printed images. The improvement can be traced to improvement in characterization of benign masses.
