Liquid-Phase Selective Hydrogenation of Cinnamaldehyde to Cinnamyl Alcohol over Th-doped Co-B Amorphous Alloy Catalyst

2009
Th-doped Co-B amorphous alloy catalyst(Co-Th-B) was prepared by chemical reduction method.During the liquid phase cinnamaldehyde(CMA) hydrogenation to cinnamyl alcohol(CMO),the Co-Th-B catalyst exhibited much higher activity and selectivity to CMO than the undoped Co-B.The optimum Th-content was determined as 10% in Th/(Co+Th) weight ratio, corresponding to the CMO yield of 81.4%.Moreover,this catalyst also displayed strong durability and could be used repetitively for many times.Based on various characterizations, both the correlation of the catalytic performance to the structure of catalyst and the promoting effects of Th-dopant on the catalytic properties were discussed briefly.
