SURVEY OF AMPHIBIAN FAUNA FROM SATARA TEHSIL, NORTHERN WESTERN GHATS, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA

2013 
We surveyed the selected spots of western part of Satara Tehsil of Satara district from June to November 2010 to 2012 during rainy season. Western Ghats of India is well known for biodiversity hotspot. The selected spots, Kaas plateau, Bamnoli, Toseghar and Chalakewadi are well known biodiversity hotspots in Satara Tehsil. The ecological parameters viz. rain fall, temperature, humidity etc. are favorable for inhabitations of amphibians. We reported 37 species of amphibians belongs to 8 families 14 genera in Satara Tehsil of 342 species of amphibian found in India belongs to 15 families. We have 10 species of frogs and 4 species of caecilians become endemic and According to IUCN red data list 6 species of amphibians were threatened in western part of Satara Tehsil of which 1 Endangered, 3 Vulnerable, 2 near threatened. Remaining 3 species Data deficient and 19 species amphibians were least concern from western part of Satara District.
