Abstract 11149: Efficacy of Statin Therapy for Inducing Coronary Plaque Regression in Patient With Low Cholesterol Level

Introduction: Statin therapy induces coronary plaque regression and cardiovascular events; however, the efficacy for the patients with low serum cholesterol level is still controversial. The present study was therefore conducted to assess the relationship between serum cholesterol level at baseline and coronary plaque regression by statin therapy, using serial intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) data from the TRUTH (treatment with statin on atheroma regression evaluated by IVUS with virtual histology) study. Hypothesis: Statin therapy may not induce coronary plaque regression in patient with low cholesterol level at baseline. Methods: The TRUTH study evaluated the effects of 8-month statin therapy on coronary atherosclerosis in 164 patients. All patients were statin naive and were started statin therapy after enrollment.
