Realization ofMultilayer Occlusion between RealandVirtual Scenes in Augmented Reality

2006
Augmented reality system iswellsuited forComputer Supported Cooperative Work. For achieving visual realism, correctly handling andrepresenting occlusion between virtual andrealobjects inAugmented Reality sceneisessential. Here, wepresent anapproach for realizing multilayer occlusion. Differing qualitatively fromprevious workinAR occlusion, ouralgorithm realizes multilayer occlusion, anditsapplication domain involves indoor-field occluded objects, whichareseveral meters distant fromtheviewer. Previous related workhas focused onmonolayer occlusion, andnear-field occluded objects, which arewithin orjust beyond arm'sreach. Wedesigned aspecial scenegraph treecomprised of somespecial nodes, namely EMO nodes. According tothe location ofrealmovingobject, different EMO nodewill beactivated inreal-time, consequently realizing the multilayer occlusion. Experimental results areprovided to demonstrate themultilayer indoor-field occlusion.
