Nuestros/as desaparecidos/as sí existen: fotografías y narrativas familiares en torno a los hechos del Palacio de Justicia

2015
Despite the many arguments that deny the existence of the missing persons in the Palacio de Justicia, their families found a way to show that there was someone who was there and who is not here any longer. All these families have brought files and photographs from their family albums in commemorations, lawsuits and other events, to say that, although they have no record of the crimes committed, the existence of these twelve people can be accounted for. If the families cannot account for the disappearances, they can account for their existence. This investigation then, explores the political uses that the relatives of the people missing in the Palacio de Justicia have given to photos from their albums. Additionally, it describes the process of finding their relatives and the narratives that they have articulated over, nearly, three decades, and, finally, examines the process of images selection that come out from the domestic sphere to the public one and the way those images go around.
