CT Evaluation and Its Clinical Significance of Vertical Facial Nerve Canal and Surrounding Structure

2009
Objective To observe and measure the anatomical structure of the approach of vertical facial nerve canal, and evaluate their clinical significance.Materials and Methods(1)Using 64 spiral CT in scanning the four skull specimens,in the axial position, the horizontal distances of the facial nerve canal to the posterior wall of external acoustic meatus, the rear edge of external ear, sulci sigmoideus and the jugular fossa,as well as the horizontal distance between the posterior wall of external acoustic meatus and sulci sigmoideus were measured, then saw the skull specimens to measure the distance in the same lay with CT image, and discussed the statistics difference of the distance between the values of CT imaging measurements and the dry entities cranial measurements on hand.(2)118 patients(236 cases) with non-ear disorders were randomly selected, including 63 females(126 cases) and 55 males(110 cases),they were subjected to maxillofacial CT scan in the same layer that used above.Results(1)There was no significantly different on the indicator values between CT image and the entity measurements(P0.05).(2)In the distance of the facial nerve canal to the jugular fossa, there was significantly different between left side and right side(P0.05),while no significantly different between genders(P0.05).However,in the other distances, there was no significantly different between left side and right side(P0.05),but significantly different between genders(P0.05).Conclusion Anatomic positions of vertical facial nerve canal and surrounding structure can be demonstrated clearly by mutislice spiral CT,which can provide reliable evidence for the diagnosis and surgery route selection.
