An Evaluation of Closed-loop Methods for Controller Tuning
1993
During the last decade, several PID controller tuning methods based on a single closed-loop test have been discussed in the literature. These methods have mainly been analysed using simulated noise-free data. The present study evaluates four closed-loop methods (due to Jutan and Rodriguez, 1984; Krishnaswamy et al. 1987; Lee, 1989 and Chen, 1989) through simulation involving noisy data and experimentation involving a temperature control loop. The results indicate that the methods due to Lee and Chen, and the frequency response method (FRM) due to Krishnaswamy et al., have comparable performance.
