Genetic variability, correlation and path analysis in onion (Allium cepa var. cepa L.) Genotypes for storage losses
2010
Sixty-two genotypes were collected, evaluated and studied for storage losses. Higher estimates of genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variation were recorded for bulb weight, reducing sugars, non reducing sugars, total sugars, total loss and sulphur content. For storage loss bulb weight, total loss, reducing sugars and sulphur content were registered the higher heritability coupled with high genetic advance. In association analysis, reducing sugars, protein and moisture content of the bulbs recorded high positive and significant associations with storage loss. Path co-efficient analysis, indicated that the reducing sugars, protein and total loss were recorded the strongest positive direct effect on storage loss.
