SYNTHESIS OF 1,6-BIS(2′-BENZIMIDAZOLYL)-2,5-DITHIAHEXANE AND ITS COPPER COMPOUNDS

The new S2N2-donor ligand 1,6-bis (2′-benzimidazolyl)-2,5-dithiahexane, [(C6H4NNHC)CH2SCH2-]2, has been prepared from 3,6-dithiaoctanedioic acid and ō-phenylenediamine. Stable copper (I) and copper (II) complexes are formed. The ESR and optical spectra of the copper (II) complexes are consistent with trigonal bipyramidal coordination of the metal ion.
