2012
This study conducted a combined exercise program with obese elderly woman of 65 and over and analyzed its effects on body composition, blood lipid, leptin, and adiponectin. The following results were obtained. First, after the application of the combined exercise program, there was a significant decrease in weight and %body fat for the body composition of obese elderly women, indicating a positive effect. Second, after the application of the combined exercise program, there was a significant difference in TC, TG, and LDL-C but HDL-C for the blood lipid of obese elderly women, indicating a positive effect. Third, after the application of the combined exercise program, there was a significant difference in leptin in obese elderly women, indicating a positive effect. Fourth, after the application of the combined exercise program, there was a significant difference in adiponectin in obese elderly women, indicating a positive effect. Based on the findings, the combined exercise program was effective to decrease weight, %body fat, and BMI which can prevent a metabolic syndrome in obese elderly women. It also showed an effective decrease in blood lipid, suggesting its effectiveness on the prevention of obesity-related diseases in obese elderly women. When obese elderly women participated in resistance exercises, the exercise group and trainers had to make considerable efforts. Thus, further research should develop exercise programs in several ways that obese elderly women can enjoy.
