This article sets out some of the main elements that characterize Canada's transforming healthcare environment and that largely form the raison d'etre for new approaches to health human resources and for the emergence of public-private partnerships. It then presents core findings from a meeting of healthcare CEOs held in Banff as well as the author's views based on his experiences as president and CEO of Kingston General Hospital.
