Vancomycin prophylaxis in prosthetic joint surgery

2019
Abstract Surgical prophylaxis is given to prevent surgical site infection and prosthetic joint infection (PJI) in prosthetic joint surgery. The common pathogens for delayed PJI are often resistant to common surgical prophylaxis antibiotics, with large clinical and economic consequences. We discuss the possible use of vancomycin (to which the most common causes of PJI are susceptible) as a surgical prophylaxis.
