New composite tubular membranes for ultrafiltration
1990
Abstract The search to find a replacement material for chrysotile asbestos as a separator for low temperature alkaline water electrolysis led to the development of a composite membrane combination being both organic and inorganic in nature, consisting of zirconium oxide grains distributed throughout a polysulfone matrix. This membrane combination was evaluated for filtration purposes. The effect of the addition of inorganic oxides onto a polymeric membrane's properties was evaluated. The preparation, the characterization and the evaluation for dairy applications of this new composite membrane type in the tubular configuration is discussed.
