Deformation effect of the scale factor during screw rolling

2010
The mechanism of the effect of the scale factor i = r 0/R (where r 0 is the initial billet radius and R is the roll radius) on the service properties of metal products is considered for screw rolling. It is found that the mechanical properties of rolled products increase with decreasing i due to the activation of deformation shear processes and the formation of a more homogeneous and ordered metal structure. It is shown that, varying the scale factor, one can manufacture rolled products with given functional properties.
