Mass Transport Phenomena in Biological Systems

1969
Over the past several years we have been involved in a number of studies of heat and mass transport in biological systems. These studies have served to confirm our belief that the analytical and experimental techniques developed for more traditional areas of chemical engineering investigation are useful in investigating biological phenomena. They have also served to highlight the fact that there are certain classes of problems of more frequent occurrence in biological systems than in the systems of traditional engineering concern. These kinds of problems stem from both the organization and composition of the biosystems and while they are not necessarily unique, they are characteristic.
