Low Latency packet transport methods for remote-controlled devices in multi-RAT environments

2016
One of the key performance parameters targeted in 5G mobile networks is less than 1 ms latency of the radio part. When this requirement is met, such innovative services as human-to-machine and machine-to-machine real-time remote controls presented in Tactile Internet are expected. In this paper, we propose a low latency packet transport system that has a quick path-switching method and a packet-recovery method to achieve low latency communications in a multi-radio-access-technology (multi-RAT) environment. We implemented a demonstration of the proposed system involving actual devices and evaluated it in a real multi-RAT environment.
