Hydroperoxides of polyarylenealkenes for inhibiting thermal oxidative degradation of methacrylate polymers

1977
Abstract Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(butyl methacrylate) (PBMA) obtained by polymerizing the monomers in the presence of a polyarylenealkene hydroperoxide have much higher resistance to thermal oxdidation than the same polymers stabilized by addition to the monomer or finished polymer of the same polyarylenealkene. The causes of this effect are analysed and the efficiency of polyarylenealkene hydroperoxides as inhibitors of thermal oxidative degradation of poly(alkyl methacrylates) has been determined.
