A measurement of the {sup 2}H({lambda},p)n angular distibution using a large acceptance detector

1995
We have measured the absolute {sup 2}H({gamma},p)n angular distribution using the LASA detector at the Saskatchewan Accelerator Laboratory`s tagged photon facility. Using 40 to 90 MeV photons, the differential cross section is measured with a statistical precision of typically 5% in angular bins of 3{degrees}and energy bins of 2 MeV. Our measurement, when combined with the world data set, will provide an extensive experimental data set with an accuracy which is better than the scatter between the various theoretical calculations for the interaction. Thus, refinements to the treatment of the interaction may be testable. In particular, because the shape of the angular distribution in this energy regime is sensitive to meson exchange currents, it may be possible to investigate the methods for incorporating these currents into calculations.
