This paper presents the summary of design and construction of a Saybolt viscometer according to Standard, ASTM D88. The realization of this project arises from the need in the Faculty of Engineering in their programs of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering have a team capable of making measurements of light oil viscosity over a broad temperature range. This viscometer can be achieved kinematic viscosity measurements over a wide range of temperatures and observe how these variations affect oil viscosity. The dimensions of the bathroom and the viscometer, were established in accordance with ASTM D88, and these values were calculated cooling power requirements and heat, considering that it was heat transfer in unsteady state. The viscometer has an agitation system to homogenize the temperature in the bath, and a control system to carry out measurements more precise manner. This team represents a powerful tool for the University and especially to the Faculty of Engineering Teaching not only type, but this also can provide services to various companies in the area of lubricants, wishing to test their characterizations and oils , and who do not have these measurement systems.
