The Technique and Legacy of the Lateral SMASectomy to Rhytidoplasty

2021
The authors describe their approach to the facial rejuvenation surgery, emphasizing the mobilization of deep face structures. They consider the lateral SMASectomy as efficient as the traditional SMAS (superficial aponeurotic muscle system) flap, but a faster, simpler, and safer procedure. The lateral SMASectomy has been the authors’ elected technique, when the mobilization of the tissues of the lower third of the face is indicated. Complementary procedures, possible complications and intercurrences, and the details to achieve an optimal result in facial rejuvenation surgery are presented.
