ADVANCED MOLECULAR THERAPIES OF THE 21 ST CENTURY I. RECOMBINANT DRUG PRODUCTS - PROTEINS AND VACCINES

2010
olecular therapies include medicines produced by using various innovative technologies such as genetic, recombinant DNA, biochemical, microbiological, immunological, molecular-biological and biotechnological. Application of new molecular therapies poses a series of ethical questions, particularly regarding the conduct of clinical trials, implementa- tion and use of animal models with pre-defined genetic lines. Nowadays, the market of recombinantly produced proteins is a growing source of controversy in the health system, because it expands significantly in volume and price, compared with traditional medicines containing substances with low molecular weight. It is necessary to examine and evaluate the efficacy and scientific benefits of these drugs, which are beginning to supplant the traditional ones while adhering to high safety standards.
