The Mie Theory and the Nature of Attenuation of Thermal Radiation in Pulverized Coal Flames
1987
The scattering effect of thermal radiation (0.5–10μm) on absorption measurements is theoretically investigated by using the Lorenz-Mie theory. Non-dimensional monochromatic correction coefficients χ λ a , are determined by calculating the scattered power collected by the detector when assuming a single scattering. χ λ a , included between 1 (absorption situation) and 1-ω (extinction situation) where ω is the single particle albedo, are to be used in order to estimate the absorption contribution to an experimental optical depth.
