Maximum Power Point Tracking Control Based on Combined MPC for the Wind Energy Conversion System with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator

For the purpose of reaching maximum power point for wind energy conversion system (WECS), a combined MPC strategy with ESO is applied in this paper. The combined MPC strategy consists of two steps. First, MPC is introduced in the design of speed loop to optimize the control performance. MPC allows selecting the q axis current vector to be applied that leads to a minimum error by minimizing a predefined cost function. Second, ESO is used to treat the lumped disturbances and add a feed-forward compensation item based on the estimated disturbances to the speed loop. Simulation results show that the combined MPC strategy not only can achieve the maximum power output for the wind power system, but also can enhance the stability and anti-disturbance compared with the traditional MPC control.
