Investigation of the Influence of Twin Pin Tool Geometry in Friction Stir Welding of Dissimilar Al alloys

2019
Abstract The influence of twin-pin semi-conical shape tool geometry on FSW (friction stir welding) of dissimilar Aluminium alloys is examined. Plates of Aluminium 6061-T6 and Aluminium 2024-T351 alloys are friction stir welded in butt joint using different welding parameters. Though three levels and three conditions were considered to conduct the investigations such as feed (11, 18 and 22 mm/min), rotational speeds (1130, 13400 and 2000 rpm) and tilt angle of 1, 2 and 3 degrees. The physical/mechanical properties were calculated using tensile tests and hardness. The mixing of the two materials and weldability were assessed by using micro and macro structural analysis.
