Petiver's Gazophylacii and the identity of Dorotheanthus gramineus (HAW.) SCHWANTES (Aizoaceae)

A re-examination of the holotype of D. gramineus (HAW.) SCHWANTES in PETIVER's Gazophylacii established that this name has traditionally been misapplied. PETIVER's figure portrays a grassy annual with petals being shorter than the calyx lobes which clearly identify it as being conspecific with–and a younger synonym of – D. apetalus (L. f.) N. E. BR. The oldest name available to be accepted under the ICBN for the species hitherto misidentified as “D. gramineus” is Mesembryanthemum clavatum HAW. which was likewise founded on a drawing in PETIVER's Gaz. The necessary new combination D. clavatus (HAW.) STRUCK is published here. Eine Uberprufung des Holotyps von D. gramineus (HAW.) SCHWANTES in PETIVER's Gazophylacii ergab, das dieser Name herkommlicherweise falsch verwendet wird. PETIVERS Abbildung zeigt eine grasblattrige Annuelle, deren Petalen kurzer sind als die Kelchblatter. Diese Merkmale kennzeichnen es als artgleich mit – und damit als jungeres Synonym von – D. apetalus (L. f.) N. E. BR. Nach den Regeln des ICBN ist Mesembryanthemum clavatum HAW. fur das falsch identifizierte „D. gramineus” als gultiger Name zu akzeptieren. Dieser Name wurde ebenfalls auf einer Zeichnung aus PETIVER's Gaz. begrundet. Die notwendige neue Kombination D. clavatus (HAW.) STRUCK wird veroffentlicht.
