An Enhanced V-BM3D Algorithm for VideoSAR Denoising Combined with Temporal Information

2019
Moving target in video Synthetic Aperture Radar (videoSAR) can be detected via shadow. Thus the inherent speckle noise and thermal noise in videoSAR may bring in a great mass of false alarms. V-BM3D (Video Block-Matching 3D) algorithm has proved its excellent effect in optical video denoising. Though its denoising performance may drop dramatically in high noisy environment. In this work, we introduce V-BM3D to suppress various kinds of noise in videoSAR and evaluate its denoising effect. Temporal information hidden in SAR video is exploited to enhance the denoising effect. Experiments on a real videoSAR footage show that the enhanced V-BM3D algorithm can effectively suppress the noise in videoSAR and bring in dramatic improvements in videoSAR moving target detection.
