Geoacoustic inversion based on matched impulse response processing for moving source

The paper presents a broadband geoacoustic inversion method based on matching the measured and modeled channel impulse responses between a controlled source and a single hydrophone or arrays. However, the source motion would greatly degrade the estimated impulse response for low broadband transmitted signals, and the multipath peaks would be smeared. Thus a wideband cross-ambiguity function is used to estimate the source velocity, and a uniform mot ion compensation for the Doppler scale factors is conducted for the estimation of the impulse response. Then inversion of the bottom parameters is performed by exhaustive parameter search. Results of a shallow water experiment using single elements of a horizontal linear array are discussed. After Doppler correction, the modeled impulse response with the optimal estimated parameters compares well with those measured results for different source depths. The inverted bottom parameters agree with expectations from the ground truth, demonstrating the applicability of the method.
