Method and apparatus for error handling in electronic control units

The proposal is for a process for dealing with errors in electronic control devices. It also comprises a device for controlling the steering angle of the rear wheels of a motor vehicle. The control device controls a setting device to which the safety device is attached. In the control device's main function transmitter signals are detected, settings calculated and the setting device controlled in accordance with the calculated values. The consistency of the calculated settings and the transmitter signals detected is tested. The testing of the values includes a decision whether the main function is further processed or one of two emergency measures is taken. In the first emergency measure the safety device is actuated and the control of the setting device switched off. In the second, the signals from transmitters are detected further and settings calculated therefrom. Before the adjustment of the setting device, the calculated settings are multiplied by a factor becoming smaller with time in order to attain a slow decay in the setting amplitude of the setting device.
