Early Experience with a Short-distance Caesium 137 Unit

A caesium 137 unit is described which operates at 20 cm S.S.D. and uses a 500-curie source. Early clinical experience is reported, with examples of effects upon the skin and mucosa. The immediate response of some malignant tumours is described. Treatment possibilities and limitations are also discussed.
