Acaricidal Activity of Aromatic Medicinal Plants against Dermatophagoides spp. (Acari: Pyroglyphidae)
2003
The acaricidal activity of the methanol extracts of 26 aromatic medicinal plants against D. farinae and D. pteronyssinus was examined using direct contact application. There was more than 70% mortality against D. farinae and D. pteronyssinus at 0.08 mg of methanolic extracts from Acorus calamus, Angelica dahurica, Fritillaria ussriensis, and Machilus thunbergii. At 0.02 mg , the extract of A. calamus gave 47.6 and 56.4% mortality against D. farinae and D. pteronyssinus, respectively. Furthermore, the extract of M. thunbergii caused 60.2 and 48.1% mortality against D. farinae and D. pteronyssinus, respectively. The acaricidal activity of the extracts from A. dahurica and F. ussriensis was significantly reduced when used at mg . As a naturally-occurring acaricide, these aromatic medicinal plants could be useful as new acaricidal products against Dermatophagoides spp.
