2015
Aims and objectives: There is a bidirectional association between the Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and Tuberculosis (TB). The study objectives are to know the response and Treatment Outcomes of this Association in a specialized DOT clinical unit. Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study of patients admitted to DOT with relation to the TB-DM and the outcome of TB treatment, during the period 2000-2014. We will to compare socio-demographic, clinical data, evolution and treatment outcomes of the TB-DM against TB-non-DM patients. Results: 1722 TB cases were adnitted: 100 were diabetics (DM type1: 11; DM type 2: 89).TB-DM patients were more aged (p Conclusions: Conclusions: Patients with TB-DM are difficult to control but through the DOT strategy can be managed to get treatment outcomes as the TB-non-DM. Some studies show high rates of treatment failure in this group. The DOT strategy can help to improve this problem.
