A study of aluminum stress on the growth and enzyme activity of primary roots of sugarcane

2003
The Altolerance in several sugarcane cultivars and the effect of Al stress on primary roots of sugarcane were investigated in this study. The results showed that TT24 and GT15 cultivars were relatively Al-resistant and Al-sensitive cultivars, respectively. The elongation of primary roots of GT15 was severely inhibited after the roots were exposed to 20 μmol/L Al at pH 45 for 24 h. The inhabitation ratio reached 493%. Al stress induced an increase in the activities of POD and SOD in root tips.
