A method for recovering cobalt and lithium from organic wastesludge including LiCoO2

2001
PURPOSE: A method for recovering cobalt and lithium from LiCoO2 containing organic sludge is provided to easily recover cobalt and lithium from organic waste sludge containing LiCoO2 by maximizing cobalt recovery efficiency, recovering cobalt and lithium of high quality and removing toxic substances from a final waste solution. CONSTITUTION: The method for recovering cobalt and lithium from LiCoO2 containing organic sludge comprises first step of pyrolyzing organic waste sludge containing LiCoO2 at a temperature of 700 to 800 deg.C; second step of dissolving the obtained LiCoO2 powder into an aqueous solution at a temperature of 45 to 60 deg.C, wherein inorganic acid and hydrogen peroxide are dissolved into the aqueous solution, the inorganic acid is nitric acid, hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, concentration of the aqueous solution of inorganic acid to LiCoO2 has an equivalent ratio of 1:1, concentration of the aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide to 1 N of LiCoO2 is 0.25 to 1.5 N, and the obtained dissolved solution has a pH of 3.5 to 5; third step of recovering cobalt by calcining precipitated cobalt oxalate at a temperature of 500 to 700 deg.C after precipitating cobalt oxalate by adding oxalic acid to the obtained dissolved solution at a temperature of 20 to 30 deg.C, wherein oxalic acid is added so that concentration of residual oxalic acid is maintained to 0.1 to 1 M; and fourth step of recovering lithium in a sediment shape after destructing oxalic acid in precipitated filtrate of cobalt oxalate and precipitating lithium carbonate by adding sodium carbonate to the oxalic acid destructed precipitated filtrate of cobalt oxalate, wherein destruction of oxalic acid in the precipitated filtrate of cobalt oxalate is performed by heating at a temperature of 90 to 150 deg.C or irradiating ultraviolet rays having a wavelength of 100 to 300 nm, and 1.1 to 1.3 M of sodium carbonate for 1 M of lithium sulfate is added to the precipitated filtrate of cobalt oxalate.
