Various numerical simulation models are increasingly used in both academia and industry. By combining more methods at the same time, complex virtual models of processes are developed to aid prediction of operational problems before a product is launched on the market, or they help solve and optimize the flaws resulting from operation. This paper presents the application of the CFD-DEM numerical model of laboratory scale fluidized bed coffee roaster. In the designed mechanism, some problems with discharging roasted beans from the reactor by means of pneumatic transport have occurred. The use of the CFD-DEM model has made it possible to investigate the process, gain relevant deeper knowledge, and draw conclusions for potential adjustments of the appliance. Taking this approach, it is possible to gather data that would normally be hard to obtain by real experiment.Various numerical simulation models are increasingly used in both academia and industry.
